The Wandoo Woodlands

As we got ourself such a nice 4WD, we also decided to do a little 4WD driving. For that purpose we bought a book: "Discover Australia 4WD" One of the trips descibed in the book is a one day outing to the wandoo woodlands, which are only roughly 35 km from Perth. The starting point of our of road trip was Mundaring. From Mundaring the first section was a bit of 4WD driving for about 13km over rutted, washed out track through hilly granite boulder country. The 13km took us about 2.5 hours.

Shortly after Mundaring, just before the 4WD section of our trip started.

wandoo1.gif The track looks quite innocent from here. When we got a little closer it suddenly did not seem so harmless anymore. 25-30° climbs on strongly washed out tracks requiered quite a bit of concentration and carful wheel placement. After all, we didn't really want to get bogged on our first 4WD trip!

wandoo4.gif After the 4WD section, about 2.5 hours later, the hills flatend out and we found easy roads to cruise along. We soon decided to have a break and eat lunch.

wandoo5.gif The rest of the trip was pleasant driving through the wandoo woodlands. We had the roads to ourself for the whole day. Not a single car passed us during the whole day. We got home rather tired, with a very dusty car. It was a great day!
